Ridderbusch, Karl (1932- )

German bass. He studied in Essen and from 1961 sang in Munster, Essen, and Düsseldorf. Further opportunities came in 1967, when he made his debuts at Bayreuth and at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. He first appeared at the Vienna Staatsoper in 1968 and in 1971 made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London,. as Hunding and Hagen. He sang Sachs under Karajan at Salzburg and appeared as Podestà in Schreker's Die Gezeichneten at the 1989 Vienna Festival. He was often heard in sacred music by Bach, Schubert and Bruckner.
