Riders to the Sea

Opera by Vaughan Williams (libretto Synge's play), produced at the Royal College of Music, London, on 1 December 1937. Its first public performance was at the Arts Theatre, Cambridge, on 22 February 1938. The opera opens as the body of Maurya's drowned son Michael is identified. Later, her remaining son Bartley also dies at sea.
