Ridgeway

Small town in Fairfield County, north-central South Carolina; population (1990) 400. It is located 35 km/22 mi north-northeast of Columbia. Settled by Scotch-Irish Presbyterians, it was for many years a lumber centre. Since 1989, when a large mine began production, it has been the centre of South Carolina's new gold mining industry.
