Riding

One of the three former administrative divisions of the county of Yorkshire until 1974: West Riding, North Riding, and East Riding; in 1974 they were reorganized into the counties of North Yorkshire and Humberside, and the metropolitan counties of West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. In 1996 Humberside was abolished. The new unitary authority of the East Riding of Yorkshire was created, and the City and County of York was created from the southern part of North Yorkshire, around York.
