Riemenschneider, Tilman (c. 1460-1531)

German sculptor. He was the head of a large and successful workshop in Würzburg from 1483 and an active participant in the political and religious struggles of his time. He is best known for his limewood sculptures, such as St Matthew (1495-1505, Berlin-Dahlem, Staatliche Museum).
