Rigby, Jean (1954- )

English mezzo-soprano. Studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London and since 1982 has sung with English National Opera ensemble as Mercédès in Carmen, Britten's Lucretia, Eurydice in the premiere of Birtwistle's The Mask of Orpheus (1986), Penelope in Monteverdi's Return of Ulysses (1989), and Maddalena in Rigoletto. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1983, returning there in 1993 as Nicklausse, and her Glyndebourne debut in 1985. In 1986 she sang Cornelia in Giulio Cesare at Zurich.
