Riisager, Knudåge (1897–1974)

Danish composer. He studied political economy at Copenhagen University, but later turned to music, studying composition with Peder Gram and Otto Malling, later with Albert Roussel and Le Flem in Paris, and finally with Hermann Grabner at Leipzig.

Stage

the opera Susanne (1950); ballets Benzin (1930), Cocktail Party, and Slaraffenland (Land of Cockaigne, 1942); incidental music to Johannes Jensen's fairy play Darduse.

Orchestral

five symphonies (1925–50), variations Poème mécanique, Jabiru T – DOXC, and overture to Holberg's Erasmus Montanus for orchestra; concerto for trumpet and strings.

Chamber

six string quartets (1918–43), sonata for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello; serenade for flute, violin, and cello; violin and piano sonata; sonata and various pieces for piano; songs.
