Rimsky-Korsakov, Andrey Nikolaievich (1878–1940)

Russian critic and music historian, son of the composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov. Studied at the Universities of St Petersburg, Strasbourg and Heidelberg, and did not turn to music until 1913, after his father's death. In 1915 he founded the monthly journal Muzikalny Sovremennik/The Musical Contemporary) and in 1922 he became editor of Muzikalnayu Lietopis/Musical Chronicle). He edited his father's and Glinka's memoirs, Mussorgsky's letters and documents, Cui's critical writings, his father's correspondence with Tchaikovsky; wrote on Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, the music MSS in the Leningrad Public Library, of which he was curator, etc. He married the composer Julia Lazarevna Weissberg (1878–1942).
