Rimsky-Korsakov, Nikolai Andreievich (1844-1908)

Russian composer. He composed many operas and works for orchestra; he also wrote an influential text on orchestration. His opera The Golden Cockerel (1907) was a satirical attack on tyranny that was banned until 1909. He also completed works by other composers, for example, Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov (1868-69).
