integer

Any whole number. Integers may be positive or negative; 0 is an integer, and is often considered positive. Formally, integers are members of the set

Z = {... −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, … }

This is the integer set of the number line.

Fractions, such as 1/2 and the decimal 0.35, are known as non-integral numbers (‘not integers’).

The addition (their sum) and subtraction (their difference) of two integers will always result in an integer. The multiplication of two integers (their product) will always result in an integer; however, the division of integers may result in a non-integer.

Construction of the division ring of fractions One common way of constructing fields is to take the field of fractions of an integral domain, a process exactly like that of constructing the field of rational numbers from the ring of integers.
On the other hand, traditional vertex coloring of (unweighted) graphs can be viewed as a circular one--consider the colors to lie in an appropriate ring of integer residues.
