Paraíba do Sul

River in southern Brazil; length 880 km/547 mi.The Paraíba do Sul rises in the south of the state of São Paulo and flows parallel to the coast in a southwest–northeast direction, between the Serra da Mantiqueira and the coastal range of Rio de Janeiro. The river finally enters the Atlantic Ocean at São João da Barra, 260 km/162 mi northeast of Rio. It is navigable for about 80 km/50 mi upstream from its mouth.
