Rio Tinto Alcan

Canadian aluminium-producing company, founded in 1902 as the Canadian subsidiary of the US Alcoa company from which it separated in 1928. In 1945 it registered the name Alcan. In 2007 Alcan amalgamated with the Anglo-American mining company Rio Tinto, creating Rio Tinto Alcan – one of the world's largest aluminium concerns.

This year's Wansbeck Business Awards, which aim to stimulate and recognise the spirit of enterprise in the area, were held at Merchant Court in North Seaton and were again backed by Rio Tinto Alcan in Lynemouth.
Siemens has landed two multi-million pound orders from international aluminium company Rio Tinto Alcan.
Around 60 per cent of the existing plant's production is used for downstream industries, while the remaining 40 per cent will be sold by Rio Tinto Alcan to markets in the Far East, Hall said.
