Rising of the Moon, The

Opera by Nicholas Maw (libretto by Beverly Cross and composer), produced at Glyndebourne in East Sussex, England, on 19 July 1970. The story concerns Cornet Beaumont, a new officer of the 31st Lancers, who undergoes a series of initiation tests that results in his regiment's withdrawal from Ireland and leaves admirer Cathleen without Beaumont.
