Ritchie, Albert

Ritchie, Albert (Cabell) (1876–1936)

US state governor. As assistant counsel to the Public Service Commission 1910–15 he won utility rate reductions, and was Maryland's attorney general 1915–19. As Democratic governor 1919–34, he improved health and education services in the state while reducing taxes. He campaigned against national prohibition laws.

He was born in Richmond, Virginia, and was a successful Baltimore lawyer.
