Rite of Spring, The

Ballet by Igor Stravinsky (scenario by composer and Nikolay Roerich, choreographed by Nijinsky), produced as Le Sacre du printemps at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris, on 29 May 1913. The ballet caused much controversy on the first night - by some accounts a riot - due to the ferociousness of the music.
