Ebro

Major river of northeast Spain; length 935 km/581 mi. It rises in the Cantabrian Mountains and flows southeast for about 800 km/500 mi, past Logroño and Zaragoza to meet the Mediterranean Sea in the province of Tarragona, southwest of Barcelona. Its main tributaries are the Ega, the Aragón, and the Segre on the left bank, and the Guadalope and the Jalón on the right. The Ebro is navigable for small vessels as far as Logrõo, and ocean-going ships can sail as far as Tortosa, 35 km/22 mi from its mouth. The Ebro is a major source of hydroelectric power.
