River Forest

Town in Cook County, northeast Illinois; population (1990) 11,700. It is situated on the Des Plaines River, 26 km/16 mi west of Chicago. A residential suburb, it was settled in 1836 as part of the community of Harlem. Local educational institutions include Rosary College (1901), Concordia University (1864), and Dominican College. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the village's Winslow House (1893) and River Forest Tennis Club (1906).
