Rivière-du-Loup

Town in Québec province, Canada, on the St Lawrence River, 180 km/112 mi northeast of Québec city; population (1996) 22,400. It is a commercial and administrative centre, lying at the gateway to the Gaspé Peninsula. Since the arrival of the railway in 1858, its principal industry has been the engineering and maintenance of rolling-stock for the Canadian National Railways.
