Riviera Beach

Town in Palm Beach County, southeast Florida; population (1990) 27,600. It is situated on the Lake Worth lagoon, to the north of West Palm Beach. It was settled in the 1920s by descendants of Bahamian fishermen, and remains predominantly black. It is a popular winter resort, connected by bridges to Palm Beach Shores on the Atlantic barrier island. Both commercial and sport fishing are important to its economy. Aerospace and electronics industries as well as high-tech research, development, and engineering facilities are located here.
