Robert le Diable

Opera by Giacomo Meyerbeer (libretto by Scribe), produced at the Paris Opéra on 21 November 1831. In the story, Bertram, the Duke Robert's father, is a demon and must repossess his son's soul by midnight. Robert is searching for his love Isabelle, and Bertram tries to lead him astray with offers of help. Alice, Robert's foster sister, saves his soul and helps reunite him with Isabelle, as Bertram returns to Hell.
