Roberts, Thomas d'Esterre (1893–1976)

English Roman Catholic prelate. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1909 and was ordained priest in 1925. After serving as rector of St Francis Xavier's College in Liverpool, England (1935–37), he was appointed archbishop of Bombay (now Mumbai), India, a post which he held until his retirement in 1950. At the time of the Second Vatican Council, Roberts became noted for his progressive views on certain theological problems.
