Robinson, Henry Crabb (1775–1867)

English writer. His diaries, journals, and letters are a valuable source of information on his literary friends Charles Lamb, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, and Robert Southey.

Robinson was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He travelled and studied in Germany and helped to popularize the work of German writers, particularly Goethe, in Britain. As foreign correspondent for The Times from 1807, he covered the Peninsular War 1808–09. He worked as a barrister 1813–28. He was a cofounder of University College and the Athenaeum Club, both in London.
