Rochdale Pioneers

In Britain, the founders of the cooperative movement; a group of Lancashire workers who opened a cooperative shop in Rochdale in 1844 inspired by the ideas of Robert Owen. The profits were divided among all the members of the cooperative rather than among a restricted group of shareholders.
