Rochlitz, Johann Friedrich (1769-1842)

German music critic and poet. He studied under Doles at the St Thomas's School, Leipzig, and later theology at the university. In 1798 he founded the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung, which he edited until 1818. He also composed and wrote libretti and poems, three of which were set by Franz Schubert; others were set by Carl Weber and Louis Spohr.
