Rock Island County

County in northwest Illinois; area 1,096 sq km/423 sq mi; population (1990) 148,700. It is bordered to the north and west by the Mississippi River and to the southeast by the Rock River. The Rock empties into the Mississippi at the industrial centres of Moline and Rock Island, the county's administrative headquarters. In the north and southwest, the county is agricultural, specializing in corn, hogs, and dairy products.
