Rockingham

Village in Northamptonshire, England, 5 km/3 mi northwest of Corby. It was formerly the centre of a royal forest. Rockingham Castle, built by William (I) the Conqueror on the site of earlier earthworks, dominates the Welland valley. The village has many 17th- and 18th-century houses.

Rockingham

Town and administrative headquarters of Richmond County, south North Carolina; population (1990) 9,400. It is situated on Hitchcock Creek, to the east of the Pee Dee River, and 97 km/60 mi east-southeast of Charlotte. Settled in the 1780s in an area that produces fruit, tobacco, cotton, and lumber, it has produced textiles, paper, and other light manufactures.
