Rogers, Randolph

Rogers, Randolph (1825–1892)

US sculptor who is known for his Victorian, often sentimental works, such as Nydia, the Blind Girl of Pompeii 1855–56, and for the Columbus Doors 1855–60 for the US Capitol.

He was born in Waterloo, New York. He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was a dry goods clerk, moved to New York City c. 1847, studied sculpture in Rome in 1848, and settled there.
