Rogers, Richard George

    0.07 sec.

Rogers, Richard George (1933– )

English high-tech architect. He established his reputation and signature functionalist style with the Pompidou Centre in Paris (1972–76), designed with Renzo Piano, and went on to design some of the world's most notable modern buildings in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He received architecture's prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2007.

Other designs include the Lloyd's of London building in London (1979–84); the Reuters building at Blackwall Yard, London (1992), which won him a RIBA award; the Millennium Dome, London (1999); Terminal 4 for Madrid's Barajas Airport (2005), for which he earned the 2006 Stirling Prize; and a new National Assembly building for Wales, in Cardiff (2006).

In the 1960s, he and his first wife worked in a partnership with Wendy and Norman Foster, and in 1970 Rogers established a partnership with the Italian architect Renzo Piano. After the completion of the Pompidou Centre in Paris in 1976, known for its exposure of the building's utilities, the Richard Rogers Partnership was formed. He was knighted in 1991.
