American soldier. In the French and Indian War (the North American arm of the Seven Years' War, 1756–63), those under his command were known as Rogers' Rangers. In 1766 he was appointed governor of Michilimackinac, but was accused of treachery and sent to Montréal in irons. He was acquitted and went to England in 1769.
