Rogowski, Ludomir (Michał) (1881–1954)

Polish composer. He studied at the Warsaw Conservatory and with Reimann and Nikisch at Leipzig. On his return to Poland he founded a symphony orchestra at Wilno. He later lived in Paris 1914–21, and withdrew to a monastery in modern-day Croatia in 1926.

Works

Opera and stage

the operas Tamara (after Lermontov, 1918) and Prince Marco (1930); film opera Un Grand Chagrin de la Petite Ondine (1920); ballets St John's Eve and Fairy Tale (1923).

Orchestral

seven symphonies (1926–51); suites Pictures of my Daughter, The Seasons, Les Sourires, Villafranca, Phantasmagoria (1920), Sporting Scene, Fantasy Pictures for orchestra.

Chamber music and songs

quartet for four cellos, suites for six and nine instruments, instrumental pieces, piano works, choral songs with and without accompaniment.
