Rogue River

River in southwestern Oregon; length 320 km/200 mi. On its route to the Pacific Ocean, the Rogue River passes through the major fruit growing region around Medford. The river was the site of a gold rush in the 1850s, and is noted for its salmon and trout.

Rising in the Cascade Range west of Crater Lake, the Rogue River flows southwest and west through the Klamath Mountains, past Grants Pass, and winds to the Pacific Ocean at Gold Beach. The headwaters of the river are located within the Rogue River National Forest (area 2,546 sq km/983 sq mi); this wilderness area is the site of Mount Ashland (2,296 m/7,533 ft), in the Siskiyou Mountains
