Roland-Manuel, Alexis (1891–1966)

French composer and critic. He wrote much criticism and books on Ravel and Falla.

He studied with Roussel at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, and with Ravel. In 1947, he became a professor at the Paris Conservatory.

the operas Isabelle et Pantalon (1920), Le diable amoureux (1932); ballets Le tournoi singulier, L'écran des jeunes filles, Elvire (on music by Domenico Scarlatti) (1936).

Orchestral

film music L'ami Fritz (after Erckmann-Chatrian) La Bandéra and others; oratorio Jeanne d'Arc; symphonic poems Le harem du vice-roi, Tempo di ballo (1924); suite Pena de Francia for orchestra; suite in the Spanish style for harpsichord, oboe, bassoon, and trumpet.
