Rolfe Johnson, Anthony (1940- )

English tenor. He made his debut in 1973, with the English Opera Group, in Iolanthe. He appeared at Glyndebourne 1974-76, as Storch, Lensky, and Fenton. From 1977 he toured widely in Europe as an opera and concert singer. During the 1993/93 season he appeared as Monteverdi's Ulisse and Orfeo for the English National Opera ensemble, as Lucio Silla at Salzburg, and Oronte in Alcina at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 1993 he sang Peter Grimes at Glyndebourne and Britten's Aschenbach at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. Other roles include Ottavio, Ferrando, and Handel's Acis. He has recorded operas by Haydn and oratorios by Handel (Jephtha and Alexander's Feast).
