Rolla, Alessandro (1757–1841)

Italian violinist (later especially viola player) and composer. He probably studied with Giacomo Conti (1754–1805) and was in the service of the court at Parma 1782–1802, where Paganini was his pupil in 1795. He was orchestra director at La Scala, Milan, 1803–33, and in 1805 was appointed professor at the Milan Conservatory.
