Rolla, Alessandro (1757-1841)

Italian violinist (later especially viola player) and composer. He probably studied with Giacomo Conti (1754-1805) and was in the service of the court at Parma 1782-1802, where Paganini was his pupil in 1795. He was orchestra director at La Scala, Milan, 1803-33, and in 1805 was appointed professor at the Milan Conservatory.

ballets, two symphonies, violin and viola concertos.

string quintets, six quartets, and other chamber music; violin duets, studies.
