Rollin, Charles (1661–1741)

French historian. In 1688 he became professor of eloquence in the Collège de France, and in 1694 rector of the University of Paris, to which post he was re-elected in 1720. He exercised great influence on French university thought. He published an edition of Quintilian (1715), Traité des études/Treatise on Studies (1726–31), and the 13-volume Histoire ancienne/Ancient History (1730–38). Rollin was born in Paris, France.
