Rollins, Sonny (1930– )US tenor saxophonist and jazz composer. A leader of the hard-bop school, he is known for the intensity and bravado of his music and for his skilful improvisation. He recorded with Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. His hits include ‘Oleo’, ‘Doxy’, and ‘Airegin’ (all 1954). He received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2004 and the Polar Music Prize in 2007. How to thank TFD for its existence?
