Roméo et Juliette

Opera by Charles Gounod (libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, after Shakespeare), produced at thr Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, on 27 April 1867. The story is similar to Shakespeare: the lovers Romeo and Juliet cannot escape the feud between their families, the Montagues and the Capulets, and die for their love.

Symphony by Berlioz, Op. 17, for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra, based on Shakespeare's tragedy and composed in 1839. It was first performed at the Paris Conservatory on 24 November 1839.
