Roman, Johan Helmich (1694–1758)

Swedish composer. He was a pupil of his father, who was leader of the court orchestra in Stockholm, and entered royal service in 1711. In England from 1714, he studied with Attilo Ariosti and Johann Pepusch and was in the service of the Duke of Newcastle. Returning to Stockholm, he became vice-kapellmeister in 1721, then kapellmeister in 1729. He toured England, France, and Italy 1735–37, became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1740, and retired in 1745.

21 symphonies, 6 overtures, concertos, over 20 violin sonatas, 12 sonatas for flute, viola da gamba, and harpsichord.

Assaggio for solo violin, and other pieces.
