Roman, Stella (1904–1992)

Romanian soprano. She studied in Rome and after appearing there from 1932 sang Strauss's Empress at La Scala, Milan in 1940. She appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York 1941–50, as Aïda (debut), Desdemona, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Gioconda, Santuzza, Tosca, and the Trovatore Leonora. During the 1940s she sang at San Francisco, as the Marschallin, Mimi, and Donna Anna.
