162–166Roman Empire, Parthia, PersiaThe Parthian War is successfully continued by the Roman general Avidius Cassius, a Syrian by birth. The city of Seleucia and the capital Ctesiphon are taken and despoiled. Cassius is given a triumph (victory procession in Rome), which he shares with the emperor Marcus Aurelius and is made governor of Rome's eastern provinces.
