Romanist

Any of the Netherlandish artists of the early 16th century who went to Italy to study and brought back some element of the Italian Renaissance style. The Romanists include Quentin Matsys, Marinus van Reymerswael, Joachim Patinir, Mabuse (Jan Gossaert), Lambert Lombard, and Bernard van Orley.
