Romulo, Carlos Pena

Romulo, Carlos Pena (1899–1895)

Filipino diplomat and journalist. He represented the Philippines at the United Nations and also served as ambassador to the USA 1952–53 and 1955–62 and as foreign minister 1968–84, in the government of Ferdinand Marcos. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1942.

Born in Manila, after studying at the University of the Philippines and Columbia University, Romulo worked as a newspaper editor and professor of English 1926–30 during the inter-war years. During World War II, he fought with distinction, becoming a brigadier general in the US Far East army, led by General Douglas MacArthur.
