Ronald, Landon (1873–1938)

British conductor and composer. He composed incidental music, songs, ballet music, and orchestral works of a popular kind. From 1908 he conducted the Albert Hall Orchestra and he was principal of the Guildhall School of Music from 1910.

Ronald was born in London, England. He received his musical training at the Royal College of Music, London. He first appeared as a pianist in Wormser's wordless play L'Enfant prodigue in 1891, and toured with the soprano Nellie Melba in the USA in 1894. From 1891 he was accompanist at Covent Garden in London, England, before conducting the Albert Hall Orchestra. He was knighted in 1922.
