Ronay, Egon (1920– )

Hungarian-born British food connoisseur and critic, best known for his guides to restaurants, hotels, pubs, and resorts in Britain and Europe. He founded the annual Egon Ronay's Guide to Hotels and Restaurants in 1956.

Ronay studied law before training as a chef in Budapest, Hungary, and London, England. After managing his family's group of restaurants in Hungary he emigrated to the UK in 1946, and ran his own restaurant in London from 1952 until 1956.
