Rondelet, Guillaume (1507-1556)

French zoologist and doctor. He studied at Montpellier, later travelling widely through Europe with his patron Cardinal Tournon. Returning to Montpellier in 1545, he taught medicine. His real interest, however, was zoology, and in 1555 he published his major work, Universae aquatilium historiae, an influential account of marine life.
