Rooney, Mickey (1920– )

US actor. Known for his energy and versatility, he began his career before the age of two in his parents' stage act. He played Andy Hardy in the Hardy family series of B films (1937–47) and starred opposite Judy Garland in several musicals, including Babes in Arms (1939). He also gave memorable performances in Boys' Town (1935), as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), and in the title role of Baby Face Nelson (1957).

He was awarded a special Academy Award for lifetime achievement in 1982.
