Rooney, Mickey (1920– )US actor. Known for his energy and versatility, he began his career before the age of two in his parents' stage act. He played Andy Hardy in the Hardy family series of B films (1937–47) and starred opposite Judy Garland in several musicals, including Babes in Arms (1939). He also gave memorable performances in Boys' Town (1935), as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), and in the title role of Baby Face Nelson (1957).
