Rootering, Jan-Hendrik (1950– )

German bass. He studied in Hamburg and sang there and at Munich from 1982, and at Frankfurt in 1983, as Marke in Tristan. During the 1987 season he was seen as Orestes in Geneva, Sarastro at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, and Marcel in Les Huguenots at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin. From 1987 he appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, as the Landgrave, Claggart (Billy Budd), Sparafucile, and Pogner (1993). Other roles include Baron Ochs (at Munich), Fasolt, and Falstaff.
