Rose, Albert

Rose, Albert (1910–1990)

US physicist who invented the image orthicon television camera tube, first used for military purposes during World War II, before becoming the electronic eye for all television cameras. Widely honoured, he wrote several books including Vision: Human and Electronic 1974.

He was born in New York City. He joined the staff at Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in 1935 after getting his PhD from Cornell University. In 1955 he directed research at the RCA laboratory in Zürich, returning in 1957 to the RCA-David Sarnoff Research Center.
