Greenhow, Rose O'Neal (died 1864)

US spy, who passed information on Union battle strategy to Confederate generals during the American Civil War. Greenhow was tried for treason in 1862; exiled, she moved to England and amassed gold for the Confederate cause. She was born in Washington, DC. The widow of a prominent physician, Robert Greenhow, she died in a shipwreck off North Carolina.
